Do I really want a DVD burner in my new PC?
I see the dual layer media are very expensive - can you use single layer media in a dual layer burner (till the price comes down) ? yes * Do any of the software copy protection mechanisms object to DVD-burners - some games warn against trying to use in a CD-RW drive. Have DVD burners 'come of age' ?
I just found out that there are 2 formats for DVD's that are burnt by personal computers. There's the DVD+ and the DVD- and each format will only work on certain brand name DVD players. I have this DVD burner. Now, I already have occupied the four IDE channels with two HD and DVD and CD burner. One HD is huge, 160 Gig. Obviously the DVD burner can burn CD's, but it is much slower than my CD burner now. Would you replace your top notch CD burner just to have DVD burning ability?

The problem is that the partial burns are now useless except for scratch. Are you using DVD-RW disks? I did have a problem with daromizer the first time I used it because I was using regular DVD-R. The script is definitely written for use with DVD-RW disks. -- Bill Thompson Bi...@Mahagonny.com --

If it's manufactured as a DVD+R, then why can't every DVD+R burner deal with it correctly. If all DVD+R burners can't handle the media then either the burner or the media manufacturer is misleading the public. There ARE standards aren't there? It's bad enough that we have DVD+R and DVD-R formats, why do we have to

(Especially in DVD Players!) The difference in price between a single format/dual format burner is negligible though, and as a previous poster suggested, it doesn't hurt to have both formats available.
