Dumb VCD Copy Question
It won't be too much longer before cars will have DVD players where the CD players used to be. (And not too far down the road are blue-laser DVD's, which can hold If you really want to be a part of the "future", save up for a DVD burner. Cut and paste to DVD burner
I just got a Dell 8300 and installed a Plextor 708A dvd burner. It will play backed-up movie dvds or any other kind, but it won't play commercial dvds, ie, those that one would purchase or rent. I have tried quite a few different discs, players, etc. I have also installed the latest drivers for my ATI Radeon 9800

Burning Backup DVD Movies
Do you have a DVD READER? I had no problem installing Longhorn build 4074 directly from DVD-1 in my 5-year-old DVD-R drive. No burner required. ;<) With LH 4051 last fall, I first installed from DVD in that way. Later, after buying a DVD-RW burner, I burned the ISO image to a CD and re-installed LH from that.

I don't have a whole lot of space available. Requirement: Restores take less/no space from the existing system. K3B will also work - on /home, for instance, provided /home fits onto precisely one DVD-RW. It too gets really bogged down at times. Requirement: Back up everything - /home only is sub-optimal.
